Barge

Meaning: In The Fireside Book of Dog Stories (1943), James Thurber tells of Barge, a watchdog who lived with a family in Columbus, Ohio. Barge took to drinking and neglected his duties until he came home one day and found that burglars had broken into his house. In despair and shame, Barge jumped out of a window and killed himself.
