How do I find a name for my pup?

That's what puppynames.com is for! Probably best to start with a quick look at our
"top names" page (some top names should be on the main page too).
Then for a more detailed search, try looking through our "show all names" page.
At the top of this page you'll see all the letters of the alphabet, you can click
each letter to see all the names in our list which begin with that letter.

I don't like your list of top names
|

That's why we've made it a democratic system!
Top names are just the names that visitors to puppynames.com rank highest.
If you don't like a name, just vote against it!
But please try to be fair - you wouldn't want someone else giving your name a
zero rating because they wanted to remove it from the list.
Also, be constructive and try and find names you do like, and give them a top rating.
If other people agree, then that name will rise to the top of our list as well.
You can also suggest new names that aren't on our list yet!

How do I rate a puppy name?
|

Rating a puppy name is easy.
If you click on "rate names" from the menu on the top of the page,
you can select any name from our pop-up list in order to rate it.
That will bring you to the page that tells you about the name you're interested in,
and you can rank it on a scale from 1 to 10.
The other way to rank a name is to browse our list of names through
the "show all names" page. Then when you click to "view" one of these names,
that'll bring you to the page where you can rank names as well.

Suggesting a new name?
|

To suggest a new name, click on "suggest puppy name"
from the menu at the top of the page. Then type in the name and hit the "submit" button.
If the name hasn't been suggested already, you'll see a message that tells you
the name will be reviewed by an administrator before it is posted.

I want to submit a puppy story, how do I do that?
|
|
Every story that's submitted has to be about a specific dog.
So the first step is to enter the name of the dog that the story is about.
To find out what to do if that name isn't on our list, click here.
To enter your story, start by clicking on "add story" from the top menu.
This page will ask you to select a name you want to enter a story about.
In the future, this will take you directly to the "add story" page,
but right now this will take you to the page about the puppy name you selected.
Near the bottom of that page you'll see a "add your story" button.
This will allow you to create your story.
Just submit your name and email address
(eventually we'll have an option that allow you to chose whether
you want to post these or not), and your story will get submitted
for review by an administrator.
You can also get to the "add story" page from the list of names as well.
Just click "view" for any name that you see in our list,
and then click the "add your story" button from the page about the name you selected.

What happens when I submit a puppy story? Where do I find it?

Puppy stories can be found by going to the page for any given name.
When you click "view" for any name in our list,
you will be automatically taken to this page. From this page you can "rate names",
"add your story", or view some of the stories that other people have
already written (just click "view"). If there is no stories entered yet
(or they're pending approval), you'll see a "no stories" message.
In the future, we're going to try to make it easier for people to view puppy stories,
possibly creating a page for "latest stories", so watch for that feature soon!

I submitted a story/name, but it didn't come up on your list? What's up?
|
|
Whenever you submit a name, it can take a little while before it's actually approved.
Usually, names are approved the same day (sometimes even right away),
but occasionally, it could take a little longer. Once it's approved,
it goes immediately to the main list. The reason we "approve" names first
is because sometimes people enter things which should not be put on the list.

What does "approved by an administrator" mean? What if it's rejected?
|
|
We approve names so that "bad stuff" doesn't get posted to our list.
We don't have a policy on what constitutes "bad stuff",
but basically we don't want any indecent, sexually explicit, or racist materials.
We will delete these names entirely at our own discretion.
If our judgment differs from your own, we're sorry but those are the rules.
If your name has not appeared in about 3 days from the time it's suggested,
it's probably safe to assume that it was rejected.
In the future we might also correct misspellings (again at our discretion),
so you if you can't find your name, try a different spelling first.
Right now, we accept reasonable misspellings, since some people like variants
of the same name. Terrible misspellings will be deleted.
Also, people sometimes submit suggestions like "add more girl names",
so we have to delete stuff like that as well. If you want to make suggestions like
that about the list, the best way to make them happen is to submit more names
like the ones you'd like to see. Finally, any names which include html
tags will automatically be rejected. I think that pretty much covers it!

How do I register?

Just click on the "registration page" from the menu at the top of the screen.
Registering is pretty quick and straightforward. In the future, we might
implement a feature to verify peoples' email address
(so we know there are no misspellings).

Why should I register if I can access most features without registering?
|
|
Actually, right now (July 14, 2002) you can access all features without logging in.
That's why you get a "member services coming soon..." message when you do log in.
However, we're working on new stuff that'll make it important to register in the future.
By signing up now, you'll be all set to use those features when they appear.

Do you sell other puppy stuff?
|
|
Nope, not right now, but we plan too.
Right now puppynames.com is foremost a name finding site.
We might get into some other stuff eventually, but we don't want
to detract from our mission to become the largest and best source
for puppy names on the web! When we do get into other things (like selling stuff),
it will be related to our core mission!
